Rejected & Still No Offer
I go to a nontarget school so it’s tough getting interviews in the first place. I’ve networked extensively and managed to gather some Superdays, but so far all of them have led to a rejection call. I’ve asked for feedback and was told that I was a great candidate and it ultimately came down to fit (take whatever you want from that, but I just think it’s just a nice way to say “we don’t want you”). I’m still waiting to hear back from 1 Superday on whether I get an offer or not, but other than that, I only have 1 more lead where I’m going through their recruiting process. If these don’t pan out, is it time to panic? It’s quite late into 2020 recruiting and hearing 2021 recruiting already happening soon is making me a bit anxious and making me doubt if I’m capable of pulling this off.
sadly I’m in the same boat as you and would love to hear what are the best courses of action to take at this point from someone who has also been through the hot mess that can be non-target recruiting!
As someone who was a non-target and struck out every single time for FT IB recruiting:
Make sure you applying to other finance roles (like Valuation or ER) in addition to FT IB recruiting. Your post is exactly the position I was in the multiple times I did IB recruiting for SA and FT. It is ultimately a numbers game and my approach was to proceed with the finance opportunities I could get and see if I could lateral from there. I also continued networking a good amount as IB roles usually pop up.
I have made posts in the past that go into greater detail about my journey in to FT IB (and navigating a recent period of unemployment)
I just read your other posts and they truly are inspiring. It’s a bit tough to always remain positive, but reading your posts really helps
In addition to applying to IB, apply for backup positions where you could move laterally within the bank potentially. I've heard of stories of people moving up from traditionally back office roles.
Also, do not stress, I know what it's like to be in that position where you feel all the work you've done for has been poured down the drain. Don't lose hope or confidence, it is the firm's loss. If you keep your head up and remain positive and continue your way through the process even for full time recruiting you will get rewarded in the end.
If you are a nontarget, have you had past IB experience etc?
