Renege on Risk Management Internship at Tier 1 Bank for Sales and Trading Internship at Tier 3 Bank?
Hi,
I am a Junior at a non-target school. I accepted a Risk Management Internship last month at a Tier 1 Bank in New York. Following that, I received an interview at a Tier 3 Bank in New York for Sales and Trading and thought that I would give it a shot at least just for the experience. Now, with an offer in hand I am contemplating whether or not to take it. My goal is to do macro focused research or quantitative research. I think that in risk I would have access to work on macro and quantitative ideas but that I might have a lot of filler work. On the other hand, the risk position is at a Tier 1 bank so I might get an opportunity to network into a much better role. For the S&T role at a Tier 3 bank I would get to directly work with trading, macro and quantitative research but the firm itself is less prestigious and I would be presumably blacklisted at the Tier 1 firm. I also fear that I might get my offer removed from the Tier 3 firm if the Tier 1 firm finds out I switched firms. Anyway, what is everyone's advice on what I should do?
It’s an internship. Not worth reneging on and either one would give you enough quality experience for trading.
Also it rarely matters what bank you trade at. Macqaurie is a tier 3 or 4 bank by the banker types. In commodities they are kicking ass and dominating Goldman who owned that game for a decade.
I thought that there was a large difference between front and middle office?
It’s an internship?
This is trading desks risks management right? Don’t burn a bridge over something meaningless that still gets you experience and chance to find a desks full time. So you sit in a seat 15 feet from where you would otherwise be.
90% of trading is risks management anyway.
They are both internships. The risk role is focused on liquidity risk of trading and currency operations. Thanks for the input, I had the idea that they were farther removed.
take trading internship
Any thoughts on how dangerous the renege would be?
Don’t think about the risk bro, just trade and never look back.
Yeah seriously, 'traderlife' is retarded
