RSM MSc in Finance and investment - is it a target for London IB/ER?

I guess I'm settling for this school given its financing requirements not being out of reach (no deposits, decent scholarships & available loans for international students). Is it a target in London? Between IB/ER/AM LO, does it have a good track record?

I recognise that "beggars can't be choosers" but I'm ditching a good target uni in the UK because I couldn't find available loan schemes. Tell me what you think abt RSM recruitment. Thanks!

(If you're curious, my GMAT & GPA combination is 8/10 & 740)

Well, it is an excellent school for the price/quality ratio. Few schools offer that if any (maybe HSG). Paying over 25/30k is "crazy" particularly due to Brexit and its consequences (without taking into account living costs). I know some that managed to get there from RSM but they really did it well (applied early, had internships and a good profile). At the end, it is more up to you than your degree.

get their employment report and see for yourself where grads end up. if you're not happy with the trajectory or only like 10% make it to front office roles in London, just wait a year and re-apply to target masters where it's more like 50%. use the year to work in the industry and save up for living costs. once you do the masters, it's forever. so choose wisely.

if we had to categorise it, we'd say that maybe it was a semi-target

I can tell you that the school places quite a few students into BBs in London each year (same goes for Amsterdam and Frankfurt). There are plenty of events organized to get a foot in the door. Prior experience in banking is a plus though, as it's a bit more difficult to land a BB IB offer in London without.

interesting, thanks!

I am currently doing ER (IB isn't too buoyant where I'm from). Should that be factored in IB applications as a plus or should it be more practical to concentrate on ER?

It depends. Do you want to do IB or ER (or something else, for that matter)?

Either way, it's always a plus to have ER experience under your belt when applying for IB-type roles. Just make sure to have a convincing story as to why you want to switch to IB. E.g. "During my ER internship, I learned a lot about A & B. However, over time I developed a profound interest in X & Y [name some things that you do in IB that interest you]".  You can tweak this any way you want, as long as it's logical and convincing.

Also, to some degree, the skills you learn in ER are relevant for IB-type roles. Emphasize that as well.
