SA Offers: MM IBD London vs GS/MS/JPM HK
First time posting on this site. I have a dilemma that I want others to chime in.
I study at a target university in the UK, did fairly well in my first year and have managed to secure 2 IBD offers for my summer internship next year. I'm not sure what I should choose among these 2. The BB would give a better brand name but the MM offer is in London.
I'm an international student who would want to start and build my career in the UK after graduating. It may not be possible to lateral from the BB HK office to London after interning there assuming I did a great job. It hasn't happened before as far as I know. If I take the MM offer, I would like to still go out and recruit again next year for FT anyway but at least if I do a good job and work hard, I will secure a position to go back to the firm.
Appreciate any thoughts.
It depends on how reputable this MM is, but i'd say take the london offer. if you recruit FT its justification for why you want to work in london FT.
Just curious, which banks in London qualify as enough reputable MMs in your opinion for him to forego the BBs?
On another note, agreed with this poster. I think location trumps that slight marginal increase in reputation. It allows you to network during your internship to secure FT in London.
Thanks! You mind elaborating on the MM? Cheers
Can you provide some colour on which MM firm it is?
I believe it's one of the top MMs in London. So Jefferies/HLHZ/RBC/Nomura. Hope it's enough for you to shed some lights on my situation. Wouldn't want to reveal too much though.
Go for London. On a side note, RBC and Nomura aren't MM banks, their scope is in between that of the BBs and MM firms.
Bump
Take the mm in London duh
As an international, go with London.
depends on which BB it is in HK. If it's JPM, go with the MM in london
So if it's GS suddenly that's a huge difference worth overlooking location? So much wrong with this.
OP take the London MM. You are overthinking this.
Thanks everyone! I guess decision made then!
