Screwed, without a job and nothing on the horizon

These past few months have been terrible. I got laid off. I did tremendously well in two interviews, had the manager tell me I effectively have it during the interview and then I find out, that due to budget issues, they cant hire me. This firm is pretty reputable in New York and now they have budget issues?!?

I just feel like I cant catch a break. I had my first interview and it went so well. However, I finished it around 9pm (strange time to finish but it was a late interview) and had another scheduled for the morning with another firm. I got an email from them later that day saying they loved me and invited me in for another interview. Thinking I had this position, I missed my other interview (as it paid less and was at a lesser company anyway). I did very well in my 2nd and was assured the job by the manager. And now this? Sucks.

On top of that, I cannot get hold of the HR team for another interview I had scheduled but got ill prior to and was hoping to get it rescheduled. They appear to have no interest but I guess I have to carry on calling them.

I'm not sure what to do. The manager adds me on Linkedin and assures me that it was only a budget issue. I'm skeptical as I had a little issue with the Head of HR for her lack of communication initially and sent an email saying how I am disappointed by the lack of communication. Could it be biting me back in the ass?

On top of everything, my boyfriend moved to London this week for a job. I'm really down at the moment.

What can I do? The manager called me to explain and said to reach out to him in the new year or he'll call me, but I doubt thats ever going to happen. The other firm dont seem to want to have anything to do with me, I've been trying to reschedule for weeks now, and to no avail.

What can I do?

So you messaged a senior employee in the firm and told them you were disappointed in them? And now you wonder why they won't hand you a job?

I politely said I'm a little disappointed in the lack of communication, because she explicitly mentioned I was due to interview formally. I thanked her for her time and considered it a closed book. I had to network hard with the managers to be granted an interview, after I thought why not give it another shot as the Head of HR is based in London and communication isnt her strong point.

Could anyone recommend a way to find out whether it was actually budgetary issues or whether it was because I expressed frustration at the process? I really want this job. They know I'm good for it, I would hate to lose this opportunity because of something inconsequential like that.

You should probably just let it go. While it is a bit late for ft at the bigger and more prestigious firms, there are plenty of opportunities at other firms. Better to concentrate your focus elsewhere instead of launching into some pointless investigation.

Its a little difficult to let it go as I know this job was good for me. There has to be a way to slyly find out whether I was dinged because of this stupidity.
