Hi,
I setup an Investment management firm March 2017. Setup a few brokerage accounts and got regulatory approvals and stuff.
But later decided to not pursue with the fund.
I am now looking to sell my LLC and the contact lists of investors and fund backers along with the plans for setting up the fund.
I would really appreciate inputs from experienced people.
I valued it at around $40k.

Are you not the same clown that came on this forum less than 6 months ago asking almost word-for-word the exact same thing you just asked? I'll just re-post what I posted last time: This isn't the right place - there's no selling of hedge funds here.

And you "valued it" wrong, because it's worth closer to $0. A $300 LLC formation, 30 minute consultation on legal zoom and an excel file with some names in it isn't worth $40k.

If someone took it off your hands for free, they'd be doing you a favor, so you wouldn't have to shut it down.

How much did you spend in legal fees to set this up?

Mar 4, 2019

Around $30000, I got it done professionally.

you have made a tactical error

the 1st thing you need to start an investment fund is both:
A) a strategy with demonstrated success trading real money for more than 1+ years (not a back test...but actually trading in the market) that beats other alternatives
B) trust - potential investors must trust you - and from the start, nobody trusts anybody, so you must create something to generate this trust.

Creating the legal structure is something you do AFTER the above are in place, so that you can accept investor money. However, you don't seem to have either A or B, so i think you just wasted your money out of ignorance.

If you were smart, you would have taken that 40k (or whatever you spent) and instead used it to trade in an actual trading account at InteractiveBrokers, to create a real track record, trading your strategy. However, you didn't do that. You did something stupid...you put the cart before the horse, as they say.

a fool and his money are soon parted...life lesson...not sure if you've actually absorbed that lesson tho...

just google it...you're welcome
