maybe not the best site to start the discussion but I'm an Australian (Eco/fin majors) with the choice of going on exchange to McGill or UPenn (not Wharton) for a semester next year and was wondering which of the two is best.
I'll be doing a semester in Austria beforehand and really only care about the social life, as SA/grad recruiting will be over ages before I go. Is there a clear winner or are they pretty similar?

Philadelphia, PA would be like the United States putting its worst foot forward. The U.S. is a giant, continental nation with radically different culture from sea to sea, much of it fun culture with beautiful women and clean towns; however, Philadelphia is a garbage dump. I spent a summer in Philadelphia in the nice part of town (Logan Square) for work--harassed constantly by homeless people. The girls were mediocre. It's a place I would recommend visiting on a day or weekend trip--there's a ton of history there, great museums, and Philly cheesesteaks. But to spend a semester? Can't think of a worse place...Maybe Camden, NJ would be worse?
