Serious Question - POTUS and COVID?

I know it has been reported by him and others that he has had COVID, but does the POTUS actually have COVID?  I am on the fence on this one.  I would like to think that he and others are not lying but at the same time, he is not acting like he has COVID. It has been reported that he experienced a high fever and drops in oxygen levels and as a result, he apparently has been taking medications that are usually reserved for people with moderate to severe COVID symptoms.  However, he has put out two marketing videos, including one in which he basically is claiming victory.  Then, he leaves the hospital temporary to do a drive by to waive to his fans.  Would a person with moderate COVID systems be doing these things?  It is mind boggling that Walter Reed's medical staff would clear him to do the drive by.  If I was a secret service employee, I would have resigned rather than drive him around the hospital for a lap or two.   It is also mind boggling that the medical staff would consider discharging the  POTUS after a couple of days in the hospital.  None of this shit adds up.  Perhaps, I am just analyzing the situation too deeply and should just assume that he is going to do some wacky shit.

Every time I read conspiratorial content like this (on both sides), I try to start with the question: "what's the motivation for this"?

Good example: why is Bill Gates trying to microchip us for financial gain? Wouldn't he be better served just not giving away billions of dollars if his goal is financial enrichment?

I find myself asking similar questions here. To me, would seem like Trump having COVID is a net negative to his reelection campaign, so not sure why he would fake it. Dude can't campaign and it makes him look weak. Not to mention how bad it looks optically how cavalier all these people have been acting with them now all getting COVID.

I don't know. I guess he could be faking it. But why? If he is, I feel like it's going to hurt him more than it will help him.

Like I said, I am on the fence here.  I look at everyone getting COVID and I say, he must have COVID.  However, his actions are not representative of people who have a moderate form of COVID.  If I had moderate symptoms, I would be focused on my health and let everyone else worry about the election.   COVID or not, he is trying to make the most of it by putting out marketing videos.

Assuming he has it, it's in Trump's (and the Republican party's) best interest to show him as healthy as he can look, even when he's allegedly got a "moderate case". Who knows, maybe he's filming this stuff while he's feeling better than other parts of the day. As with all diseases, it seems like severity of symptoms fluctuates.

Maybe he just got lucky and really isn't experiencing major issues. No matter how bad his symptoms are, as the guy below me mentioned, it would be stupid not to provide anything but the best medical treatment and accommodations for the POTUS, regardless of who it is.

There's not big brain chess going on here. He got COVID. He has been running around, generally treating the disease as if he is a 'low risk' person and thus he got it. So many others around him are getting it, that I'm dubious it's a conspiracy.

As far as how serious it actually is? Who the hell knows. Who cares. I would hope that if it is half as serious as people think it is, you'd take him to the hospital considering he's the president of the united states. I mean... why is anyone surprised he went to walter reed? He probably had fluctuations, some oxygen issues, etc. and we used treatments on him like you should. Again... there's not much to see here in my view.

Everything is going to be even more polarized with this. If you hated him before - you think he's even more reckless than ever, endangering everyone around him, was in serious condition and needed all kinds of treatments, etc. . If you love him - you think COVID is defeated, why not open everything, look at him he's 'at risk' and just fine, look at all the treatments we now have to manage this, etc.

Honestly - I think we've all gone bat shit crazy. I have. You have. The country has. I hope it's all over soon.

That is a reasonable conclusion.  However, I look at the behavior post diagnosis and say, WTF   He is trying to turn the diagnosis into a campaign strategy, which is bizaar.  If you were a secret service agent, would you want to be in the same car with a guy who has COVID?

I would not - nor would I, personally, have decided to put anyone else at further risk especially once I knew I had COVID. Granted - they do exist to protect and defend but, I mean, that's not an excuse to abuse that job description. Certainly - I'm not jumping at that job... even before it involved a communicable disease.

The reality is that before this - while running against the ghost of joe biden - he's still getting throttled, and even if you believe a 'silent majority' exists somewhere out there... it's not looking great for him. I mean good lord - Biden could barely hold it together on a debate stage, and Trump still made an absolute embarrassment of himself... even for many of his supporters.

So it doesn't shock me that he's going to go for broke at this point - flip the narrative, speak from experience, empathize with those that have gone with it. Not a 180 turn, for sure, but basically saying that he's 'living proof' that the treatments his administration have helped push along work, that we can manage the virus, that the risk to even vulnerable populations can be managed and appeal to the segment of the population that is ready to move on, open up and find a way to live whilst still providing for those that are at risk. Might as well at this point - coupled with more and more tax cuts at the final hour.

Besides - is his behavior any more bizarre than it ever has been? I think at this point that bar is pretty low.

It's understandable that you are skeptical the trump has Covid.  The long record of trump and the administration of lying makes it impossible to take anything at face value.  But, trump does have Covid.  These guys don't have the smarts nor the discipline necessary to carry out a hoax like that.  There are now 29 people known to have been affected in his circle over the last week.

We don't know how severe his case is, but remember that he is being propped up by several medications including the steroid Dex.  Also we have only seen carefully controlled glimpses of him since last Wedneday or Thursday.  It's possible he goes back to the White House today, but he's definitely got the Covid and he's definitely not out of the woods.

Love how conspiracy theories became just about the most American thing nowadays.

Apparently everything is fake news because everybody lies?

If people continue to distrust each other, distrust institutions, and distrust pretty much everything including their mothers, this country is gonna be absolutely f***ed

I agree with a majority of the comments above, however I would like to bring up a counter point. Trump has not handled the COVID error very well, this is not really up for debate. With that said, Trump is overweight, older and has several preexisting health conditions. What if his goal is to pretend to have COVID or maybe even actually get COVID, feel better in a few days, then show the world this virus isn't really what everyone is making it out to be? Many of the far left supporters use COVID as a huge arguing point against Trump - what if his goal is to prove a point? This could potentially help things normalize.

I am sure I will receive MS for this comment, but its just thinking out of the box showing another view point. Not sure I even believe it myself.

I think you're overthinking this. The COVID fiasco is not making him look better, and even he seems to realize this. He definitely has it, but it's likely that he's downplaying the severity.

I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I'm not just gonna give you a whole spill... I mean, I don't even know where you're sitting at
