Should I be proud of myself?
I go to a non-target school and had a 3.0 GPA. Should I feel proud that I got an offer at Goldman Sachs in their compliance department?

Do you feel proud of yourself?
.
If you didn't care what other people thought .... what would you do?
No
Do you need a hug?
I'd say if you're even asking this question then the answer is probably no. Do what you can though. Just incidentally though, your first sentence is in two different tenses: present and past.
This is so fucked up to me for some reason.
No
I need a hug
good luck finding one
Better way of putting it: should I accept the offer as a home run or continue pursuing IB at boutiques?
And I'm obviously fucking around with the hug comment, don't flatter yourself too much busterbunker :)
Take it and get a JD. You're being offered a mulligan on your career path.
Thanks. Love the JL signature btw
Nothing good about compliance
Question: Should I be proud of myself?
Answer: Yes
Given: I got an offer at Goldman Sachs in their compliance department Assumption: You would be "less" proud (derive less utility) if you didn't have a job/paying job
Proof
Claim 1: I go to a non-target school and had a 3.0 GPA. I got an offer at Goldman Sachs in their compliance department. I have a job!
Claim 2: I go to a non-target school and had a 3.0 GPA. I DID NOT get an offer at Goldman Sachs in their compliance department. I DO NOT have a job!
Claim 1 is clearly better than claim 2
Opportunity Cost
Claim 1: Income - Taxes - Living Expenses = Net Positive (stylized fact)
Claim 2: 0 Income - 0 Taxes - Living Expenses = Net Negative
Op. C Claim 1 Op. C. Claim 2
Transferable Skills
Claim 1: You will develop "some" skills & experiences to talk about in future jobs
Claim 2: You have no skills to speak of
Once again, claim 1 is clearly better
Conclusion: Yes
Someone please feel free to correct my logic. Realistically, you should feel proud of yourself on a "marginal" level.
Hopingtobreakin: a simple "yes" would've worked fine. Appreciate the time and effort nonetheless!
I work as an analyst at a HF. That's what it's all about - backing up your claims. I'm a neophyte so its simplified.
My alternative offer is financial analyst within Bain Capital Venture's "Startup Academy" (not as prestigious as it sounds) or the rotational finance program with Marriott International
Hopingtobreakin: I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to respond. It painted the picture for me in a much more analytical/philosophical way. Thanks a ton
Let me be the first to say that this is definitely the wrong place to ask that question if you are looking to feel good about yourself for landing this job.
This is one of the more obscure posts on this entire forum.
You should be proud of yourself if you achieved something you did not think you could do. Being proud of yourself is a purely self to self comparison.
Don't see why you'd need validation from a bunch of anonymous dudes on a forum. If you're happy you're happy if you're not... you're not.
People will see Goldman Sachs on your resume and will find it very impressive, regardless of what division. Many future employers will barely even recognize the difference between compliance and IB.
You passed GS's filtering system so it is an accomplishment. It's not like GS will hire mediocre talent for the less desirable positions.
If you're in the compliance dept, why is your tag for IB?
Unless your end goal is investment banking, you have GS on your resume. That will look very very good to a lot of people forever (likely in other industries). Whether you are "proud" of yourself is really up to you. Do you want to pat yourself on the back & go drinking with your friends, or cry yourself to sleep in shame?
meet your co-workers
.
You should be proud, lets be honest who looks at your GPA when you get a job. In my eyes, its a clean slate now that your working at Goldman. Give it 100 percent and evaluate your job performance. If your happy doing what you want to do, you should be proud.
