Should you finish interviewing for a firm when you know you will not accept the offer?
So basically, I have an offer from firm X which I really like, and will probably accept. I'm also in the pipeline for firm Y and have a final round scheduled for them next week, but I already know that I'd rather take firm X over firm Y. Now, I know that some would say to just notify firm Y that I'm no longer interested, but I was wondering if it would perhaps be better to have the final round interview for firm Y, potentially receive an offer, and then turn them down after a few days of "thinking". That way I think it'd seems like I was considering them more seriously, and they might feel less slighted by me choosing another firm. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is my thinking idiotic? Thanks.
tldr I'm wondering if I'd be keeping more doors open at firm Y by finishing my interviews with them.
Is there any chance you'd take firm Y or are you 100% set on firm X?
If you wouldn't take the offer, let them know now so they can fill your spot in the superday. There's no problem with taking another offer and if you do it politely you're not closing any doors there. Much more frustrating and problematic when candidates seem excited and then ghost for a few days just to reject the offer.
Just tell them; it fucks shit up for other applicants. Imagine if you were the runner up to get the spot and you dont get it because the person with an offer at another bank already gets the offer and then declines. A week or so later HR's mind changes and instead of giving it to you they realize that they like a different applicant more and give it to them.
Don't do this. Take firm X. Let firm Y know that you are accepting another offer and thank them for their interest in you. Saves everyone time and effort.
