Skip IB? or long-term repercussions?

Nontarget here. I have been heavily recruiting NY investment banks with the hopes of 2 years and out to PE. I know that there has been a change to PE firms recruiting out of undergrad, but is that risky. As a nontarget, I feel like if I want to end up at a decent PE firm, doing ibanking is a great way to get those looks.

If I did theoretically go to a lesser known PE firm, would that experience be looked upon as more or less favorably on my resume than a 2 year analyst stint?

Does anyone have a more solid answer? Would like to know if I should double down on IB Recruiting or spread myself thinner

No point in trying to change your mind bc it sounds like you're already in love with the idea of PE before even doing it but, if you're non-target you have next to no shot at a great PE firm out of undergrad, sorry to say that.

Based on your past posts, you're a rising 3rd year non-target, diversity and if you haven't landed a IB SA 2021 offer yet, I'd definitely say keep pushing for that... Most diversity events are done already and so you're a tad late, with that being said there are still many great firms recruiting.

I'm a rising senior who just wrapped up my internship with a BB and thought I wanted PE like you but now really love the vibe of my bank. Also I think you're simply more credible having your 2 year analyst stint from a top bank then going to PE. You're more reputable technically speaking and also within the firm I think people will value you more.

Maybe i'm totally wrong though, just my 2 cents.

Why would we assume that? All I know is that you have made threads looking for easy IB SA gigs to land and want to "backdoor" into PE from what you yourself called a "nontarget". Seems like you're just looking for an easy way to get a competitive job, but everyone has to go through the process. You already got advice, even from a verified associate, and people have answered all of your random questions/threads on WSO. Honestly, you should spend less time on WSO and more time on prepping and networking so you can actually have a shot at one of these jobs
