This may be a bit random, but I'm browsing late (can't sleep) and my tried brain mis-processed that title as "SMBC Swimsuit Banking Corporation".
Well to put it bluntly, this is an effective way to expand overseas business. Sumitomo Mitsui can count on the spreads from lending to private equity. Clearly, moves to purchase these types of assets will increase among other megabanks. Walt for Basel 4 to be definitely implemented and you will see m&a happen again in the FI world. The market desperately needs consolidation.
Their corporate banking is very strong. IBD I haven't heard much about. Culture and people seem great. I have only heard good things.

Great Project Finance shop along with the other French and Japanese banks.
Not at the center of many major happenings for IBD stuff though.
