Soon to be Rising Senior who recently got interested in Mgmt Consulting. Do I have a shot?

So I just got interested in management consulting over the past couple of months and I was just curious to see if my background would make me competitive for a full-time position at a MBB or T2 firm.

Econ Major @ a Target (think Cornell/Dartmouth/UPenn CAS)
Incoming summer analyst in a cooperate strategy and bus dev group at an F500 company
GPA: low 3.4 (this will rise to ~ 3.5 at the end of the semester)
Pretty good extracurriculars but nothing spectacular

Does my background check out or will I need to network like crazy?

You're coming in at a bad time. In typical markets, your background is on par for tier 2 firms at a minimum. You might have some trouble w/ MBB due to your GPA.

Next year, all bets are off. You need to network like crazy. You should probably start now. If you get the interview then you need to have a strong performance in your behaviorials and cases. Next year is going to be extremely competitive. Get your legs moving now.

By the way, lose the 'nothing spectacular' mentality. Top firms like people that achieve awesome things. Figure out how you're awesome.
