Starting a portfolio (beginners)

Hello all,
I am currently setting up a long term portfolio strategy. I am 23 and, after some thinking, I have decided to take action and start investing a part of my salary every month.
My debate is: is there any good tool to track, organize and, indirectly, manage your portfolio?
I have seen, for example, morningstar has a great tool in my point of view, from which one can learn a lot of stuff too.
My aim is to follow an active management of my portfolio. Would like to get some opinions whether paying for a tool is a good idea or an excel sheet should be enough, if so, any feedback on good tools you use?
Cheers,
