Strategy roles similar to Consulting ?
I am a sophomore at an Ivy League school and am interested in consulting? Realistically I don't think I can land a junior year internship since the top consulting firms take few juniors from my school and mostly do heavy recruitment for full-time positions. What types of strategy/consulting type roles for my junior internship should I look into? Is it worth pursuing banking just so I can have some sort of business experience? I'm not really sure what to do
While consulting firms take students from broad backgrounds, banking is a very, very solid choice for your internship if trying to position for FT consulting. If feasible, that would personally be my recommendation for you junior summer.
Outside of IB / investing roles, the next best thing is probably F500 internships in corp strategy, FP&A, product management, product marketing, data analytics. Start-up roles are also good if you can craft the right interview narrative about the experience you got. The rung below that would be public sector (i.e. capital hill) and non-profits. Breaking in from these backgrounds is still feasible but probably requires more networking and honing of your story

Thanks so much for replying! This was very helpful! What roles withing banking do you think would be most related to strategy consulting? I'm not sure what banking roles are the best to pursue so I can start preparing for technicals.
I would be a bit cautious of this advice simply due to the IB point. Doing a summer internship in M&A will not give you a good idea of what MC is like or the relevant skills for it. Other finance/investment roles and corporate strategy ones may be more adequate.
