Are we limited to these two choices? In what price range is the suit you're looking at? I've not had experience with Alfani but one of my first suits was a Calvin Klein (~$400). I wouldn't buy it again--I found the material to be coarse and scratchy.

Check out some of the other posts here... a lot of talk on good mid-ranged suits. Personally, I prefer Hugo Boss because the cut fits me well and they can be found on-sale in the 4-600 range.

Whatever you buy make sure to put away $50-$100 to tailor it.

If its your first suit I wouldn't spend more than $200-$300 on it considering even if it is a brand name it will probably be on par with lower end suits, all fused and machine made.

Heck, I got my jobs with H&M suits, $119.99 each, and two suits from hong kong tailors $40 each. Material isnt great but fit is what really matters first.

They're both good suits, but Alfani (Macy's house brand) is typically $50-$100 cheaper. The advantage of the CK is that it's typically made in the US or Canada with a little better construction.

If you have an extra $75 to spend on top of the cost of a CK, Joseph Abboud makes excellent, durable suits that look pretty nice and get more respect from the label-snob crowd than Alfani or CK. You can get them for $350 at the Men's Wearhouse or $299 at Century 21 (if you can find one in the right size in blue or charcoal- a big if.) In the long run, the Joseph Abboud will cost less per wear than the Alfani, but don't spend money you don't have if you're a college student or professional who hasn't gotten his first bonus.

Ya but Men's Wearhouse gets you on the tailoring, they overcharge like crazy for it. Also, their suits are absolutely horrific quality

My experience has been that dollar for dollar, the higher quality suits are at Men's Wearhouse. $300 gets you Tasso Elba or Calvin Klein at Macy's which is good for about 100 wears. For the same price, you can get Joseph Abboud or Pronto Uomo at Men's Wearhouse which is good for about 150-200.

If you don't like Men's Wearhouse tailoring, you can always get it done by your local drycleaner. I would imagine the situation varies from location to location.
