Switching groups and/or locations before FT?
Hi everyone, I recently accepted an FT offer starting next summer at a hybrid EB/MM (One of Gugg/Roths/GHL where their main office has some bn + deals but in a regional office that is purely MM). I mentioned this because its not a BB like JPM or Citi with a lot of mobility.Due to some personal reasons wanted to either be in NyC or a different regional office. Would can I do to switch from my regional office to either A different group or location. I interned at lmm pe fund my sa2021 so would it be best to network with other groups ahead of my start date next summer or go to hr?
Understandably, the group I am currently in would be upset but was wondering if I tried making the switch if my offer could get rescinded. Also don’t mind going through another superday interview process for the other group
Bump
I’m guessing this is gugg?
Definitely network with other groups (after start date... week 2 or 3) and have some irons in the fire for FT. Immediately after you get your offer, talk to HR, but MMs don't have the same class size/easy flexibility as BBs to pop you into NYC so at least be prepared for the worst. They won't rescind the offer, they just might deny the move.
That said, it's common enough to move, although I'd just say NYC. A regional office will want solid ties to that location and to recruit their own hires, plus have a much smaller class so less likely they'll have a spot.
I
I already wrapped up my SA at a pe firm and just signed with this bank for FT. Is there any way to network between now and my start date to get into a different group or office at the same firm. And in my networking emails should I mention that I have an offer and signed with the same firm in a different group?
Ah, I misunderstood - no you definitely cannot do that. You will lose your offer. Banks don't mind transferring SAs, but trying to move on a FT offer signed 2 months ago is just gonna burn bridges and get pulled. Networking internally is also a bad idea since internal moves go through HR first - your emails will just get forwarded to the regional office, not a good look. Other banks will not be interested in you or have spots until you are an experienced lateral, since their FT classes were also filled in August.
Sorry to be harsh but you can work in your regional office for 1 year and then you can very very easily lateral wherever you want internally or externally
Gotcha, so if I even approach HR or another group. They will rescind my offer since I’m an incoming FT?
