I managed to convert a cold email to a managing director at a Bulge Bracket Bank in NYC into a phone call. I was wondering what are the different things I should keep in mind and what can I do to impress him. any tips from the Pros would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the networking is successful because he sees something in common or interesting about your background? Check his LinkedIn or news about the firm and especially his group, if you have not done so. Find common ground to build rapport.
Classinc networking, ask to be introduced to more junior people in the group.
Is that more helpful in terms of getting an interview?
I don’t think that MDs are involved in the recruiting process- at least at my firm it’s usually analysts-vp doing it, they may just do one interview in the final round.
