Thoma Bravo: Culture / Experience?
Hi all. I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on Thoma Bravo as a place to go as an Associate. There’s plenty of information on this site about their deals / investing style, so I’m wondering more about culture, hours, associate experience, and other related things. All info would be helpful. Thanks
I talked to an associate alum a few weeks ago & got the feeling that it's a sweatshop.
What gave you this feeling?
"So what are your fav things to do in (name of city)?"
"Yeah I just work and sleep whenever I can, and that's about it."
I worked with TB several times during my IB days. found the team to be really like able. We had a few meals together and everyone was very intelligent and friendly.
Any idea on comp?
Bump does anyone have TB 1st or 2Y comp?
Use the search, people have talked about this before at length.
Thoma is essentially the best software PE shop, or maybe 2nd best if you put Vista first. They do a variety of types of deals and structures, mainly buyouts, comp is standard for Megafunds these days and a pretty sweaty culture. I don't know if it's as bad as the Apollo's of the world, but it's definitely up there.
I heard a rumor that either TB or Vista ( can't remember which one) would asked a question in an interview which essentially was "One of your best friends is getting married and is having their wedding over the weekend, an urgent item comes up on a deal that's supposed to close at/around the same time which requires your full attention, what do you do?". Most candidates try to say that they would do their best to balance the two and that type of answer would get them an auto-ding. The only acceptable answer would be to prioritize the deal work...
The upside is, super sharp investors, killer returns, you'll learn a ton about investing, particular in technology, and everyone will know TB if it's on your resume.
I'm sorry but you have to be a total loser to prioritize your PE job over your literal best friends wedding. Terrible question.
What type of shitty firm is so dependent on a junior employee that they cannot afford lose them for a few hrs on a weekend. What abdumb question, id walk out on the spot if asked that.
what defines a "super sharp investor" especially since I see that described a lot amongst PE/VC tech funds.
Thoughts on Thoma’s new late stage venture vehicle?
Anybody work in the Miami office? Might be willing to suck up sweatshop hours if it’s in Miami instead of SF
You might be a different kind of sweaty in Miami tho lol
any clue on who they use to recruit for the Miami office?
