Tier 2 B-School Placement??
Hi all. I've tried researching on both this and the b-school forums as well as on B-School sites themselves, but I can't find any information. Does anyone know what B-School placement looks like out of T2 firms (S&O, S&, OW)? Or could anyone point me to where I would be able to find information relevant to this topic? It would seem to me as though b-schools don't publicly release lists of feeder companies anymore. Thanks.
All the firms will have a presence at the T2 schools (you mean top 15-20 outside of MBA business schools ">M7 right? MBA business schools ">M7 reports raw numbers so I'm assuming you mean the other top schools).
LinkedIn will give you the raw data on #'s and I'd encourage you to do the research on your target firms. But it won't tell you how many recruited for each role.
For comparison, a T2 at an M7 might have 100+ applicants for 30-40 interviews and give offers to say 10-20 during both internship and full time recruiting; half of those or more might end up at MBB and each will lose a few more to lateral cross offers. Bear in mind that tier 2 recruiting is more cyclical than MBB and firms will hire between 0 and 15+ for full time recruiting based on current staffing needs. I'm willing to bet that the raw numbers aren't far off at a tier 2 but there will be less pull from MBB and fewer opportunities per individual unless you're a rock star.
EDIT: I said all firms have presence at all the schools but - there are exceptions that came to mind after. OW hasn't traditionally participate in OCR, but they seem to have started recruiting for their HC practice on campus at some schools. Not sure of the whole list but I saw them at Booth. Full time (second year) only, no internships. ATK never recruits full time, only for internships that convert. And some smaller firms such as Parthenon don't recruit at all schools.
I think OP means how well do people from T2 consulting firms do when applying to bschools, not how well do various bschools place into T2 firms. OP i don't think you will be able to find any aggregated data, but my guess is most T2 firms will have some representation at all top schools, with a smaller percent of the class the closer you get to the top of the rankings. I would suggest reaching out to people from your firm who are currently at your target school.
Ah yes that's clear now that you've pointed it out.
LinkedIn is still helpful here. I will say you'll see a ton of Deloitte/ACN/Strat&/LEK/ATK at top schools. Less from OW but that's more because they don't push b school as hard. These firms are classic feeders to M7. You'll see a much larger % of MBB land at MBA business schools ">M7 as opposed to below compared to T2 firms but top 15/20 should still be easy if you don't blow the GMAT and MBA business schools ">M7 is definitely in reach. Most of the top performers (I.e. Sponsored status) will land at MBA business schools ">M7. HBS and Stanford also possible.
Removed. Misunderstood the question.
Hi everyone! Thanks for the responses. Yes, to clarify I was referring to the placements of persons who went to a T2 consulting firm after undergrad, and then applied for b-school after 2-3 years.
From what I've observed at OW: they don't really encourage people to go to business school so not a large proportion of people apply. But for those who do, placements in the past few years for US offices goes something like 0-2 to Stanford, a handful to Harvard, and a TON to Wharton (on an annual basis). Other MBA business schools ">M7 happens too but not very popular. Note that I include people who have left OW to join other companies but have spent
