tips for getting that Investment Banking interview
The recruiting season for Investment Banking summer internships for 2011 is coming up here in Canada. Applications are due Sept 14. I'm trying to land an internship at one of the Big 5 banks.
Here's some details about me:
starting 4th year student
Bachelors of Business Admin - Accounting Honours
3.35 GPA (will get it up some more easy)
co-op experience at the CRA (Canada Revenue) within Finance as a Financial Analyst
some other random volunteering for Vancouver 2010 Olympics and other office experience
What do you think my chances are to get an interview for the Investment Banking Analyst position? I would really appreciate any tips for my cover letter and resume to land that all important interview... i will also be attending the networking sessions when they are scheduled.
Post you're resume bright spark.
Where the hell did you get that? September? that's full time man. Summer analyst positions open up in december/january. What applications have a mid september deadline?
Oh sorry, yeah it's the 2 year Analyst position type of thing only open to undergrads.
Resume isn't fully complete yet, got bits and pieces done as i'm trying to revamp it for submission...
CNB90: JP Morgan has a mid September deadline.
Where do you apply? JPM website?

This says mid december - where did you get that date from?
so do you think i got it what it takes?
I'm not the best person to ask, I got my internships through connections and I'm still a sophomore, however, if you tell me what school you go to then maybe I can give you a better picture based on what I've researched. GPA is too low though, in the U.S a 3.5 is minimum but In Canada I think it's more like 3.7+ from what I heard. Also, have you networked at all? It's a pain in the ass but friendly alumni who you ask general questions and keep in touch with might recognize your name on the application pile and nominate you for an interview.
...
Nah but i hear the Toronto Maple Leafs are hiring if u want to be a line cook
Most deadlines for SA'11 are mid december .... later for MM and boutique....
I go to Simon Fraser University, west coast in Vancouver. How did you make connections with alumni who are within Investment Banking?
I think it would be possible to get an interview but it would require a lot of hard work and perseverance. From my understanding, there aren't many bankers from SFU...they usually are from Ontario universities (Ivey , Queen). One suggestion would be to do ur CFA 1 so at least you are showing employers you have an interest in finance. Good luck.
