What groups are generally regarded as top echelon on the street? (any bank, any office - NY/SF/LA/Chicago) — what are the top few in M&A, LevFin, TMT, Sponsors, Industrials, Restructuring, etc?
This is the most common topic in the history of WSO. If you can't find it searching this site (I swear to God there was a thread within the last week), you won't be joining one of these "top groups." You have also added nothing to the conversation, nothing specific about yourself or your situation. Just "what are the top groups?" What's the purpose to you even asking this question?
It’s kinda disheartening how condescending this forum is. You clearly could’ve just not commented at all but instead decided to be a boner. A lot of us are trying to learn actual info from people who work full time in these groups.
no he’s right. what’s disheartening is how often this question gets asked and you somehow can’t manage to use the search feature or do a little of bit of scrolling through the forums. literally it’s asked every other day
If you were trying to learn, you would search the forum. If you were trying to learn, you would tell me about yourself and your situation, what research you have done so far... you know, targeted questions. If you were trying to learn, you would provide some context.
I have helped people on this site for over 5 years with extremely good advice about recruiting and have literally helped people get hired at "top groups" as well as recruit for PE. I do this for free I am getting paid "$0 plus benefits babe" to post here. But I help those who have some desire to help themselves.
Back? Okay, now you can see that your question sucks. It's meaningless. I can help give you recruiting advice but your original question sounds like it is from a high school sophomore doing research for a newspaper article.
Try to be more like that other intern who wrote an exremely insightful piece about his intership. He will be top bucket because he is resourceful while you are just waiting for someone to show you how to do everything. Essentaily, you will be bottom bucket if you even get a job in IB
Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.
This is actually a really great question. We've been working in IB for so long and no one has bothered to ask about the best banks. We are very humble in this field and almost no one goes into the field for the prestige or the money. We care about M&A and cap raises to the point where we are up until 4am making sure logos are aligned for the most proper sale of a business.
I am proud to be an investment banker.
Cheers,
Rideian

First one is fine but others may not be so yin and yang (don't want to bring up colors).

Reputable websites like Mergers and Inquisitions (which you should read cover-to-cover) refuse to even rank the banks. Read this article and come back with better questions. https://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/top-investment-banks/ League tables are public! http://graphics.wsj.com/investment-banking-scorecard/ but you would know that if you could only use Google.
