Top Private Equity firms Austin, TX?
I am aware that Austin may not be that big in the PE scene but just wondering if anybody has heard anything on the PE scene in Austin, Texas?

Career Resources
The two big ones that I know are Vista Equity Partners and Austin Ventures, maybe others can chime in on others
AV is dead. There is also CenterGate, LiveOak, Sante Ventures, Elsewhere Capital and Escalate. I'm sure there are plenty more, but that's all I can think of and includes VC's.
Just a few more names to add. I can't speak to their quality or performance, but their mostly in the smaller end of the spectrum:
I'm not in the PE scene so I really dont know much about them (outside of them being very small), but I've met the Managing Partner of Cotton Creek Capital - good dude.
Also some niche firms like Stafford, Hawkeye Partners (RE) and Nate Paul's firm World Class Capital
Silverton Partners (more of a VC shop) but are crushing it as one of the partners is an old AV founding partner. I have a good relationship with them if you ever want an introduction. I live here in Austin. Cheers

GPB Capital is based in NYC but has an office in Austin. $1.5-2bn AUM middle market PE. Others named are either VC or smaller shops.
Next Coast Ventures raised a large first fund, started by a former AV partner.
SLK Venture Capital is a fund founded by the former Pine River CIO, and their board members are really well connected (Andy Roddick, Walrer Robb, etc). Just raised first fund.
ESW Capital is a family office with a buyout mandate, pretty big. They have a spin-off fund that just started called Think3 with $1B AUM for software buyout where they then give the bought out founder seed capital to go start another company.
Stafford is a big fund with a lot of offices. Their Austin office focuses heavily on early stage stuff and timberland investing.
Stonepeak is setting up an office there in the next 6 months
Vista, Peak Rock and CenterGate are the MM shops that are well known.
Vista has obviously done very well under Smith and is well thought of in software and tech.
Not as certain on Peak Rock performance as they have a reputation for being value buyers and have struggled to offload some of their investments recently due to ludicrous valuation expectations. RCR was a good outcome and Highline Mushroom was a great one. Peak Rock also sucks from a cultural standpoint (lots of turnover, unlikable people IMO).
Don't know as much about CenterGate other than they are struggling to buy in this market.
Don't forget about UTIMCO.
UTIMCO is UT's endownment and the work they do is almost 100% fund-of-funds. I interned there once awhile ago so maybe my information is outdated now
They do some direct but as far as I know it is all co-invest with current GPs who bring them the deal.
TPG have an Austin office
What is the salary track for these firms (in ATX) starting at 1st Assoc. levels and onward?
Little bro just moved to Dallas for IBD but was saying Austin is an emerging market (duh) according to many VPs at his firm in Dallas.
Interviewed with one of the named funds and was told $200k all-in as first year associate. No idea on structure or how it tracks after that
