I mentioned that I had a list of Toronto boutiques that I had contacted or was planning on contacting in another thread and people seemed pretty interested in it. I figured I would make it available to everyone. I know it isn't every Toronto shop (or even close to every shop).
Here is my list.

Correct. But, I got a number of positive responses from places that are interested on bringing in a Summer Analyst or would consider it later in Feb/March.

What about firms like Desjardins? Do they have a solid deal flow? Where do they stand compared to big 5s and boutiques such as Nationals, Canaccord Genuity?
Desjardins is not a boutique. They are one step below the big 5 in Canada. National Bank can be considered almost on par with the big 5. Canaccord Genuity would be a Canadian "elite boutique" (if such a thing exists).
Canaccord has had the highest volume of equity deals in the past year, including some huge ones like glen core viterra at 7.5b and Cross Border deals like sinopec daylight at 2b.
Desjardins has shitty deal flow from what i hear...friend of mine works there...they pitch for syndicate points rather than syndicate leads...so you can see how great their pipeline is

Some names to start you off: CCC, M Partners, Haywood, Jacob Securities, Solaris, Fraser Mackenzie, Morrison Park Advisors, Blair Franklin Capital Partners, Mackie Research Capital
Then some bigger ones: GMP, Canaccord Genuity, Cormark Securities

Thanks CZH, good call, forgot about Crosbie. There's also Osprey Capital. Though I think Crosbie and Osprey are two firms that don't really have 'junior positions' (analyst, associate) typically (at least I think Osprey is...)
nothing out there at this time, you should try NY. still can hook up there as my buddy got one recently and no luck at to.
Interesting - it must have been a decent sized boutique in NY if they were willing to sponsor a Canadian kid for a work Visa.

Genuity, GMP, Dundee are all up there. Genuity being well ahead of all others.
In Toronto CanaccordGenuity and GMP are the best. CanGen M&A and GMP Mining are on par with the Big 5. Cormark is also good in mining but not quite as strong as GMP/CIBC/BMO. There are several other decent boutiques out there but I'd say those are the "top" boutiques in terms of dealflow.
Haywood Securities has a small investment banking team.
anybody whether these boutiques have already finished recruiting for SAs or are they pretty offcycle? I know Genuity's done, what about the others..

Hey everyone, I'm Canadian, currently doing undergrad in the States and slated to be a summer analyst in NYC this June - August. Although I'd love to live and work in NYC after graduating, I've thought about going back to Canada to work in Toronto. Besides the big Canadian banks - RBC, BMO, etc - which BBs, MMs, and boutiques have the best Toronto presences? Any input would be appreciated (...eh)
Merrill Lynch probably has the largest presence. I've also heard good things about the Morgan Stanley office. The one thing you need to be careful of is the fact that a lot of the Toronto BB offices source their deal execution to their NYC offices (i.e. JPM/Barclays). Check the Canadian league tables for more info.
