unique situation--resume advise
Hey all,
I've gone through many "please destroy my resume" posts and they've helped, but I'm in a bit of a unique situation. I'm entering my junior year at a top 25 b school on the west coast (transferring there from CC) and applying for internships now. My goal is to end up in investment banking in a major city for finance. I understand--at least to an extent--the difficulty of doing so.
The unique part is that I'm a non-traditional student (25), as you can tell by my resume. I understand I'm getting to the point of "missing the bridge" (due to my age). I'll be entering the right clubs, etc., when I start at my new school. I'm trying to put together a resume for internships now and I'm curious what everyone's advise is for my situation (I'm sorry, but "don't even bother" wont help lol). This resume is temporary until I get going at my new school. I'd appreciate advise/help at this point. Again, I understand its going to be difficult.
I'm currently trying to talk to career services right now, asking for their advise, but a few app deadlines are coming up.

Hello Gavin, I am also in a similar situation, 23 transferring to a west coast target from a cc. I was in the Army prior to starting school and am finding it difficult to accurately show the progression. I am new here, so maybe I am doing something wrong, but I can't click on your resume. If you're in the orange county area maybe we can meet up. I am curious on peoples opinions of trying to apply without classes completed at the target. Best of luck.
Hey, I've seen other people just reefer to their school in the ranking system (t15, t20, etc), so I just did the same. I don't mind sharing though; I'm going to Foster in Washington state. Possibly the school that's going to be the hardest to get into banking from the top 25 (lol)... it's .com not .cim, I'm to new to the forum to upload a link. Gl
I was unaware of the link limitations and I see your point on the common language for schools. I just thought it was more for perspective students as they apply to a range, but I'm sure your usage is correct. One thing I liked about your resume is the intended coursework. I'll have to use that as I think it gets the intention of your progression across very well. A few mistakes I saw was the misspelled "calculus" and I would take out the "been to every country in North America, there are 23 and you state you've been to 9. I also wouldn't try and be clever with that as it just opens you to being proven wrong. I'd focus more on a specific skill you learned, like being able to adapt to a new culture or logistics, etc. The formatting looks good.
