URGENT - QMUL vs universities in the North

Got an offer to study at Queen Mary University of London (BSc), but it’s some 300 miles away from home, and parents are asking to consider closer options.

They’re willing to support me fully either way, but they just want me to work as hard as I can, in hopes of becoming successful.

By closer options, I mean places like University of Manchester/Lancaster/York/Leeds/Nottingham.

I plan on attending Spring Weeks, and applying for 2nd/3rd year summer internships, which would be more convenient (geographically) if I were in London. I’ve heard that banks compensate applicants for travel expenses, but this would still mean 2/3 months of living in London anyway (for summer internships) if I studied closer to home.

Should I decline QMUL, to put my parents at ease, or should I go there, work my ass off, and prove myself in London?

You should decline QMUL and go to a better university.

Does not really matter if it is in London or close to home. Nottingham is the best one in your list.

Well why is Oxford better than Oxford Brookes? Why is QMUL better than London Met or the Open University?

It is not necessarily logical or fair, but that is the way it is. When there are 100 applications to 1 interview slot, you have to prioritise. You could go to QMUL and find out the hard way, or save yourself a lot of time/money/rejection.

I would pick one of the UK target/semi-targets listed in Q1. Would not worry about the course too much.
