Hi all, would anyone happen to know if there is an applicability for Python/R/other programming language knowledge in the consulting field in general? I know it is incredibly project to project, so there is not too much repeatability in tasks day-to-day, but is it worth investing time in learning? Would love any insight

data analytical languages are more broadly used. languages like Power BI, Tableau, SQL. Others like Excel, VBA and Python are used to a lesser degree, but often vary by project. - from a friend in the field.
Just speaking from my experience: Broadly, I would say VBA, Python, Power BI.
Granted, I stay away from technology consulting for the most part and get placed in the PM role for engagements, so Power BI or my firm's specific tools/applications have become more useful for me. I almost never spend time in complex spreadsheets anymore or in data sets.
Not in general. For consulting in general, you just need your box of crayons. The fat crayons.
For data science, you need whatever the project requires. The main point is to learn to think in programming so you can learn any syntax. Python is the bare minimum kiddie pool intro language. Lingua Franca.
As others mentioned, some supporting “languages” like SQL and Tableau help with IO and Viz. Excel you should be a blind drunken master of by default - it’s like putting “I know computers” on your resume.
Ignore: R, SAS, Power BI, etc unless it is a project need to use them.
