Venture capital and growth equity deal data for Europe

Does anyone happen to know of any sources of historical data (free or paid) for Venture Capital and Growth Equity deals in Europe?

The further back they go the better, we plan to use them for machine learning.

Thank you!

In my opinion, Pitchbook is best.

Not that you asked for this and you might already know this, but deals in Europe are a bit different depending on the location of the fund. ie: European funds investing in Europe v. a non-European funds investing in Europe.

Since a plurality of VC funds located in Europe receive governments as LP’s they are geographically constrained to their own countries for a certain percentage of their investment dollars. Many European-based VC’s and Angels are able to participate in early stage deals for tax benefits that allow them to claw back returns within two years and well before the maturity of the company / a typical exit. Additionally, for many of the biotech start-ups my last firm invested in, since we were a non-European firm, to establish an office in their country we had to invest in a company within that country within a certain time period, regardless of the quality of the deal.

So for European firms that are new and non-European firms trying to enter the European space, keep that in mind before evaluating the success of funds in and outside of Europe for deals w/ in European borders.

TLDR: PitchBook, European VC / growth equity deals often operate by different rules

These are some great insights, thank you. I have two follow up questions:

(a) Does Pitchbook allow batch exporting of 10s of thousands of deals? (See answer to "How did you construct your machine-learning model?" here as to why this would be needed.)

(b) If you happen to know, how does Dealroom.co (https://dealroom.co) compare to Pitchbook for exporting historical deal data?
