Wearing your work clothes to upscale lounges?
SA here considering saving some money by wearing some of my more business casual shirts out to upscale NYC lounges instead of buying separate shirts. Off course I have my black and navy button down which I don't wear to work that I already wear out. Is it acceptable?
Yes you're fine. Consider changing up your shoes if you aren't actually coming from work to look trendy.

Lol what are you a waiter at the local italian place? Or a member of the Jersey Shore cast? Toss out the black dress shirt. Those things are awful. As stated above stick with blue & white.

Depends on the shirts but probably fine. Get some nice jeans though. Not crazy Russ Hanneman type jeans either. Maybe basic dark ones from APC or at the very least, Rag & Bone.
My solid light blue shirt will definitely show that I'm coming from work, but are my gingham and Bengal patterns ok? I also have white and pink solids which aren't too bad.
pink solid is OK as long as it's pastel and not a deep pink, instead of opting for jeans pick up some navy/light blue/olive green Chinos from brooks brothers or similar. Can't go wrong with a nice set of chinos, proper shirt, and some bit loafers.

I'm gotten into Up&Down (the Justin Bieber/Leonardo DiCaprio club) with some quality, black J.Crew shoes, black belt, nice watch, and a white dress shirt tucked into a blue suit. I'm an intern as well.
Please god tell me you did not wear black belt/shoes with a blue suit.
Not bright blue. Dark, conservative blue. If you think you can't do that then you don't have any fashion sense.
If you're coming in from work, roll up your sleeves for a more relaxed look.
Do you tuck your shirts in or wear them untucked when you go out? There are some tailoring differences to look out for. I would assume you're not tucking in when you go out, in which case shirts are not really interchangeable:
Your work dress shirts should be left long at the waist to better tuck in. You'll see "tails" in the back - any shirt with a tails should be worn tucked in. If you are going out with untucked shirts, and they have tails, you should have some of those shirts tailored to remove the tails and give them a flat look at the bottom. This makes them harder to keep tucked in, however, so those shirts will likely be out of commission for work. If you are buying button downs that are already flat/flatter on the bottom, they are meant to be untucked in the first place.
The one exception might be if you're very tall (over 6'2" or so) - in that case you might be able to get away wearing untucked shirts with short tails, but I would still stay away from leaving longer tails untucked (i.e. Brooks Brothers). If you're under 5'10" I would never wear shirts with tails untucked under any circumstance.

Though pricey, I would hardly consider the clubs/lounges mentioned in this thread so far "upscale".
If his sole goal is to save money, then it's not logical. However, I'm assuming he wants to save a bit on clothes so he can afford to go to upscale places and socialize/network with the right people.
and here we have it folks, "the best and brightest" are discussing what color your shirt should be... we need a Cosmopolitan section for the glamorous bunch
In his defense this is the "fashion for business" section of the site. I cannot however defend the black button down.
