What are traders doing with Python/SQL/other coding languages

I'm curious to hear how traders at BB's/firms like Wolverine are applying knowledge of these coding languages. What kind of tools are you building, what are you using the skills to do on a day to day basis?

C++ is used to build the technology at my firm (way above my head - I have no idea how most of it works, I just use it to trade). I use python/pandas a little bit for data-driven projects, i.e. finding futures correlation in different months or finding correlation between projects, and I know some the heavy quants at my firm use it for much of the same (although they also use a ton of other crap that I wouldn't even begin to know how to explain).

Interesting. So mainly using python as a research tool and C++ and other languages get used to build platforms, execution algos, that sort of thing?

Building tools to look at trade positions/market data and scripts to automate and build shortcuts in aggregating information or performing repetitive tasks. Most trading shops don't have super robust tech teams
