These institutions help traffick billions worth of drugs and illegal weapons across international borders every year. Just last year, it was revealed that Wachovia (now a part of Wells Fargo) had laundered at least tens of billions of dollars for Mexican drug cartels since the escalation of drug-related violence at the US-Mexico border in 2004. This laundered money has gone towards the purchase of everything from the drugs themselves to the planes used the transport them and the weapons used to kill police and civilians alike. Ed Vulliamy produced an in-depth report on this last year for the Guardian.
Those pesky Occupiers have tricks up their sleeves that we don't hear about on a daily basis -- money laundering and drug trafficking!
Seems to me like the author needs to take up a bigger issue to make an argument with any sort of validity: the most basic function of banks is to lend money to low-risk borrowers, and just because clients in the arms industry qualify as such doesn't mean there is some sort of backdoor conspiracy occurring.
So what's the deal -- conspiracy, or just conjecture? Maybe plain absurdity?

Even with Soros though, I'm not too sure he knew where a lot of that money was coming from, and he's not even the shadiest guy in the business, in fact probably not even close. It's a very little spoken of truth, but NYC/London are capitals of scrubbing funds to an extent far beyond money laundering: look at fraudulent reverse mergers of Chinese companies, or post privatization IPOs of public companies sold no-bid in developing countries...crime so big that it's systemic. Whether heister is joking or not, yes, criminals need financial services, and banks are often a nexus point even if they don't realize / can't prove it many times, and governments aren't really able to create solutions so this is unlikely to change anytime soon.
