What's the best way to go about recruiting for U.S. jobs for a U.S. citizen that's attending a Canadian university?
I go to a top Canadian school (Ivey, Queen's) and have been applying to jobs over the past weeks. In a perfect world, I'd love to land an investment banking or investment management role but unfortunately it seems like there aren't too many so far. This means that I'm also considering BO and MO roles as well as general corporate/commercial banking roles too.
So far, it feels like due to COVID there aren't too many FT opportunities across all of these jobs which further pushes me to look for opportunities in the U.S. too. I have a very good GPA and recent FO internship at a respected fund, but I know that I'm at a disadvantage coming from a Canadian school and recruiting in the U.S. I was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting some interviews at least in the U.S.? Is cold emailing/reaching out my best/only chance?
Network network network! Canadian dual-citizen at a non-target here, I've found that because of COVID we're on a little bit more of a level playing field. You're essentially on par w non-target Americans because you don't need to worry about physically going to NYC to network, you can do it virtually. Make the most of this time/opportunity, it will get harder once travel re-opens!
