When do people expect Private Equity on cycle recruiting to begin this year?
Any reasonable chance it’ll be sooner than last year (started Jan 10 or 11 I believe)? Around when do people expect it to start this year? Obviously no one knows but just wanted to get a pulse...
Hi Greenwich517, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
More suggestions...

Last year was jan 10th as stated previously. at coffee chats ive been getting told that some of the funds have been hearing mid-late december, but obviously all hearsay. Many events are being held 3 weeks + earlier than they were last year (ex: Centerbridge marketing event last December was held last Tuesday, and Carlyle coffee chats started in mid-December last year vs. mid-November this year). So about 3 weeks earlier maximum from that Jan 10th date
Thanks - interesting. Just to dig a little deeper on that...did they elaborate any further? Like hearing that it would be mid-late Dec because it's been 3 weeks earlier every year for the last few cycles or based on some other intel about firms getting ready to pounce?
I heard that the coffee chats were earlier this year because many of the networking events coincided with actual recruiting last cycle and had to be canceled because interviews began.
It's all hearsay, pretty much. Never heard any color around whether or not coffee chats were scheduled earlier due to them being too late last year. I expect the recruitment week to start somewhere around mid to late December, and if doesn't start then, around the same time it did last year
PE interviews have already begun believe it or not. Won't name the funds that have already begun but they're going under the radar so as not trip up the cycle and cause a frenzy.
Wait no fucking way...I know firms are already short listing and wining and dining but interviews? Do you mind sharing firm names or at least what kind of firms?
Middle market
A few smaller firms try to jumpstart the process every year... that's probably what he's describing, and it doesn't affect the main process. Only advantage of getting one of the small ones now is that you get a practice interview with a firm you probably don't care about.
I'm skeptical the process would be mid-to-late December. Even PE guys like their winter vacation and typically partners get involved in later stage interviews. They're already skiing in vale at that point.
