When you receive an offer...
Does it usually come by telephone or email?
Also, if it comes by telephone, do you usually get an email beforehand letting you know when they will be calling you?

Verbal offer will usually come first. Everything else (emails/letters/etc...) will come later.
You usually get an email or a call from HR. Depends on the shop. I have known people to be personally called by the MD, but that is not always the case. If they call and leave a message it usually is a good sign. Just relax.

Just wait for the call? Simple as that...
ha. that's true. just curious if anyone had heard of this sort of thing happening. in my experience, people don't schedule good news.
Yeah, you always get a call/voice-mail first.
i've always been called first, once by a group head i interviewed with and every other time by hr

thanks for the replies. this is similar then: how are rejections usually given out?
after that many rounds, usually by HR over the phone
is it always by HR? or are rejections sometimes given by the banker in charge of recruiting?
ive had them from both. although when it was from HR, they just emailed, whereas when it was the banker, usually they'd call and want to talk, say something along the lines of, "you were #2, and were actually #1 on a bunch of people's list, keep in touch for full time stuff...blah blah blah"

@guenter how would you view my situation?
I actually had HR email me first to say to expect a call from them in the morning, and then they gave me an offer
I just got an email from HR said they have an update for my interviews process, have no idea whats gonna be next
thats encouraging. at least, according to board-based empirical evidence, i'm not entirely doomed.
I will give this tid bit. The very 1st rejection letter I ever received I actually framed. Have it on my desk and look at it daily. Rejection sucks, but it can also be a powerful motivator. If you do get dinged realize it isn't you so much as it wasn't the right time.
Mine was actually a small, green postcard. One of my most prized possessions. I also save a copy of every business card I have had. One day in the future I will frame them to show how I have progressed. I think that is one of the nicer things about getting older is that you can look back and actually see how things move up, then back, then up again. Gives a nice perspective for sure.
got a similar question: once you receive a verbal offer, how long until HR contacts you about completing the formalities (paperwork)??
thanks for the reply. The MD told me he had my address from my resume and would ask HR to get in contact with me. Just a little worried since I am going to be travelling from next week and wanted to get it over with.

so far for my personal experiences, offers are always by phone, and rejections are always by email... they don't bother to call you if they're not hiring you i guess...
All of my FT offers came from bankers via phone first. One was a conference call with two senior bankers haha.

If a place said they'll let you know in the next morning after you interview and they haven't called since the morning. Does it mean a ding? Anyone have experience with it?
