You usually get an email or a call from HR. Depends on the shop. I have known people to be personally called by the MD, but that is not always the case. If they call and leave a message it usually is a good sign. Just relax.

ha. that's true. just curious if anyone had heard of this sort of thing happening. in my experience, people don't schedule good news.

aaais it always by HR? or are rejections sometimes given by the banker in charge of recruiting?

ive had them from both. although when it was from HR, they just emailed, whereas when it was the banker, usually they'd call and want to talk, say something along the lines of, "you were #2, and were actually #1 on a bunch of people's list, keep in touch for full time stuff...blah blah blah"

I will give this tid bit. The very 1st rejection letter I ever received I actually framed. Have it on my desk and look at it daily. Rejection sucks, but it can also be a powerful motivator. If you do get dinged realize it isn't you so much as it wasn't the right time.

Great post; much of the same is true for me, though I forgot to save that first rejection letter.

Mine was actually a small, green postcard. One of my most prized possessions. I also save a copy of every business card I have had. One day in the future I will frame them to show how I have progressed. I think that is one of the nicer things about getting older is that you can look back and actually see how things move up, then back, then up again. Gives a nice perspective for sure.

elephant_tradergot a similar question: once you receive a verbal offer, how long until HR contacts you about completing the formalities (paperwork)??
normally when giving you an offer over the phone they'd verify your address (verbally) and send the offer package. Can take anywhere from next day to about a week....just depends on how quick the hr is with sending shit off fedex

If a place said they'll let you know in the next morning after you interview and they haven't called since the morning. Does it mean a ding? Anyone have experience with it?
