Where to BUY in London?

Someone mentioned the fact that Londoners dont get too much attention on this forum (or life in general idd say), so here goes..

Which areas would you consider buying a property in, and at what stage of your life/career?
ie Mayfair mansion wont work as analyst/associate/vp, nor will clapham work for ED. it shudnt.

Assuming you lived in London for a few years, you probably know what tickles your fancy already, and what you could afford.

There are a few threads on renting, but nothing really for a serious long term place to live (perhaps thats a hint as well), or an investment, or both. Perhaps thats a hint as well.

So, say you decide you want to direct those £1500 a week towards your mortgage, where would you buy...

Not East.

If it would be buy-to-let I would go South. Croydon is pretty underrated. Prices will rise faster than in central in the next years and its quite vibrant. 15 minutes to central which is pretty fast if you consider it takes me 40 minutes by tube to get to my office in Mayfair and I live in Zone 2. Sutton and Epsom are quite good as well. If you want to buy it to actually live in there it's a different story
