Why are liberals so obsessed with COVID?

I've never believed in conspiracy theories before, but I think this is moving beyond conspiracy. Liberals are using COVID to spent ungodly amounts of money and to further their agenda. There is another ~$6T in the pipeline to stem an economic problem that we don't have. Why are mask mandates coming back for fully vaccinated people? What are we doing? Is the focus going to be on case counts forever? In that case, this will never go away because we are not going to eradicate this anytime soon.

I'm genuinely concerned by how many people do not see what is going on. Today Nancy Pelosi asked Capitol Police (which the left seem to love...) to arrest any house members who aren't wearing masks. This has become legitimately insane. Do any of you really view all of this as a rational response and rational behavior?

It's not rational - the virus has been politicized (by both sides). I tend to agree, lockdowns and and (some) mask mandates are an overreach by the government, especially for the fatality rate that COVID, not to mention the fact that we have vaccines against it. There are vaccinated people that are willing to get behind the wheel of a car, but not go socialize in a restaurant...it's absolutely bonkers.

We never did this with the flu, which is a deadly seasonal disease. It's just politics at this point.

Yeah - they care about consolidating power in the federal government and a pandemic is a good lever w/ which to do that.  They aren't actually concerned about COVID - never were.

I come from down in the valley, where mister when you're young, they bring you up to do like your daddy done

Because liberal voters are massive pussies and their politicians want to keep leveraging it for political power. Hilary said it best.

Never let a serious crisis go to waste is politics 101. A massive expansion of the welfare state (sending stimulus checks to even those who didn't lose their jobs, providing the child tax credit payments in advance, etc.) is just what the Democrats want. UBI in disguise.

The mask stuff is also perfect for creating an us vs them (them most often being the "deplorables") mentality.

But more to blame than politicians is the media. Now that Trump is somewhat out of the picture (at least on a daily basis, even if he manages to make the news most weeks or months), the media companies need to fear monger to keep people engaged so they can continue to avoid any decline in ad dollars.

Artificially support unemployment payments at a rate that forces even more businesses under, creating more state dependents, who will now continually vote for whoever continues dolling out the cash. Baby steps towards neocommunism, but steps nonetheless.

Not too mention, the entire mail in voting system that was a complete dumpster fire.  If Covid wasn't created in the Wuhan Lab, then Trump would still be President and the Hong Kong protestors would still be out there.  Also, notice how no one mentions any punishment for China? Wonder why that is lol

If they implement more lockdowns and we don't see excessive, violent riots like we see all across Europe, MidEast, Australia (if you follow the right Twitter accounts s/o @investmentshulk) then that's a wrap for America being the "Land of the Free" and it is our own fault.  A country of weak cowards, filthy blue haired communist whores, and brainwashed children who are taught to hate themselves.

These are the bylines from an article published by CNBC this morning. And we wonder why every histrionic Karen and Kyle in this country continues to hyperventilate:

And this is the type of stuff The Atlantic continues to pump out:

People who are having perfectly fine and fun summers are now saying "Wait, summer is ruined?! Damn it! It's the fault of those damn deplorables!"

Division and fear is the name of the game, and the media is only getting better at sharpening that axe.

The 7-day rolling average deaths in Washington, D.C. is 0. No deaths. Zero. None. The Mayor of D.C. just announced an indoor mask mandate for all persons and is recommending outdoor masking (setting the groundwork for a full mask mandate). But the people of D.C. didn't need it. Within HOURS of the CDC making their masking recommendations, virtually the entire population of D.C. went from maskless to fully masked.

The liberals don't need a mask mandate--they will follow the CDC to Hell and back, regardless of the scientific merit. We are a town full of people educated beyond common sense.

Then how about they take away the IP protection for insulin, post 10mph speed limits on every road, and make sharp corners on tables a jailable offense? Because it's never been about safety.  It's been about control.

I'm not wearing a mask anymore. If I enter a place of business and I'm asked to put a mask on I will leave. I won't argue. I won't complain. I will just leave. I'm fully vaccinated, young, and healthy. I am not playing this game anymore. The ONLY way we get our freedom back from these petty tyrants is to say no. We can't go along to get along anymore with regard to Covid. They will use it as a source of power for as long as they possibly can. Those of us living in People's Republics will have to start saying no.

I’m in the same boat. I was vaccinated the second day it was offered to me (which btw, my city put me at the end of the line because I’m young, in good shape, and not a smoker). I’m lowest risk for COVID and vaccine side effects. I don’t care if anyone else around me is or isn’t vaccinated, it’s their choice, and the fact that we’re all still talking about it in nearly August 2021 shows what a clown show this all is. If a business still wants me to wear a mask, which is pure theatre, I’ll just go elsewhere. Only exception is the airport / planes since there’s not really a choice if you’re a plebe like me flying commercial.

At first I thought their goal was just to get Trump out with COVID as a tailwind to that, but now it is just being used to spend money which is their strange fetish.

I was 100% convinced that the Democrats' and media's Covid extremism during 2020 was to get Trump out of office. I thought the derangement would end the day after the election, regardless of who won. However, they have been almost unrelenting, with the exception of the last 10 weeks or so. I think a large contingent honestly care about Covid but have this misguided belief that they can change the trajectory of the disease by mandated behavior. The only thing that has changed the trajectory of Covid has been the vaccine and natural immunity. Everything else has been destructive and for show. The people in power, however, are obsessed with control. The level of control they have demanded and taken over the population is unprecedented in the history of the democratic world, and they won't let go of it. They are drunk with power.

Because it’s their agenda. Unlike most professions, politicians (on both sides) don’t actually give a shit about analyzing problems and finding the best path forward. They just want to get re-elected, and do whatever they think will help them in the next cycle. A lot of times, this means just doing whatever the opposite of the other side does to gain endorsements from each other and support from donors. Republicans opposed mask mandates, shutdowns, etc, so liberals are just taking the other side of that coin.

Controversial

It's killed 600,000 Americans.  And it's given countless others permanent lung damage, brain damage, etc.  Some of my family members have long COVID and it really fucked with them

More than the War on Terror, Vietnam, Korea, WW2, and giving the American Civil War a run for its money.  Thank god the vaccine mandates are coming, we can't negotiate with people who believe in microchips (50 percent of anti-vaxxers believe it!)  And to all the people who call me a libtard, look at who launched operation Warp Speed

600,000 disproportionately elderly Americans, many in nursing homes with 12 month life expectancy, or passed their life expectancy isn't the same as 300,000 young dead people in a war. We all understand that basic reality, but you can definitely lie with statistics, that's for sure.
