Why does everyone on here suck

Why is it that everyone on here came from a really privileged background and complains about literally everything??? I’ve had people on here complain about making 85k out of school.

Just don’t get it??? Cmon guys not everyone’s dad makes over 400k!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I do have to speak up a bit here because I've seen you on quite a few threads. Just looking at your topic and comment history, it seems like you're asking for advice from people on this thread on your offers from BGL and Mesirow, and are pissed off that people are speaking negatively of them. And from what I can tell, you have quite the problem with "privilege" and taking criticism.

Not everyone on here comes from a privileged background. To give you more context, I have an immigrant dad and mom who work in the fast food industry for less than 40k a year, our financial situation was affected horribly by the pandemic, I've worked ~12 hrs/day in the food service industry every summer of my high school and middle school life, and I'm using IB as a way to put my sister through college, the whole sob story whatever. I go to a semi-target on financial aid, granted, so I am privileged in that aspect.

I respect the grind, I really do, because I went through the same shit. However, I would really recommend you to stop thinking about everything from a privilege standpoint and stop being so defensive when YOU are the one reaching out for advice. You are blaming other people's privileged viewpoints as the reason they see a gig that makes 90k out of school as subpar, and nothing else. Granted, privilege is probably part of that, but obviously the long work hours, the bad culture, and their own personal experience as ACTUAL INVESTMENT BANKERS play into it too. They are not complaining "about literally everything", they are giving their own honest thoughts on something that YOU ASKED FOR ADVICE ON. Of course, some people are assholes, but you can't just pin everything that you don't want to hear on "Oh, they're just privileged and don't understand."

Honestly, I don't even know why I'm typing this out to you as I don't think it'll change your narrow world-view or your self-entitlement at all. It just grinds my gears seeing someone from a similar background crying on an online forum about privilege when other people are legitimately trying to help them.

I woke up this morning and was about to write an apology, as well as tell the guy below me to stop being an asshole to you because I think I was too harsh. However, I just went through some of your earlier comments and I've lost all of the sympathy I had. My bad, I actually wrongly assumed that we had similar backgrounds. I find it absolutely disgusting that you (unless you lied in your previous comments) are clearly from a much richer place than I am, with your dad making 190k a year and having a family connection who's an MD that referred you during the recruiting process. You don't even realize the privilege that you have, and you're the one complaining about other people's privilege and making a big deal about being "scrappy". Get some godamn perspective, and stop treating your struggles as special. This mindset of "God, I worked so hard for this offer, I overcame so many adversities and these WSO trust fund babies just don't understand how good they have it" is so fucking hypocritical it's insane.

Don’t feel bad for OP. Took a look at his post and comment history and laughed that he’s getting shit on with his offers. I’m in a similar boat. Parents were immigrants that have only worked in the restaurant industry. I’m a first gen student that got into a top 25 US News school and landed an IB offer. I think I worked hard for everything I got. But then you have these kids who have privileged upbringings whining. I’m glad OP only got shitty offers from Mesirow and BGL because he doesn’t deserve anything better.

This guy is a complete troll, and people are wasting their time trying to give him actual advice and information. Wish he would get banned so he can just lurk instead of excessively shitposting

Different point of view hear. Dad made ~2-3m last year (all-in) as a C-suite exec for a F500 company. He still calls every week to tell me how crazy IB working conditions (coming from the man that has worked 80hrs+ his entire career). Privilege is one thing, and yes someone from my background will have a harder time justifying working IB hours than most people, but working this much sucks period.

No one is complaining about the 85k out of undergrad lol. It's just that BGL is a shit bank lol. I gave you honest advice on that thread, but you get so defensive whenever anyone bashes your bank and tells the truth. Try to lateral to something better after your BGL stint, but still doesn't change the fact that the place sucks ass. Don't care that it's 90k lol when street is 100k and you're working with toxic assholes who will grind you to a pulp. People aren't here to inflate your ego and make you think BGL is the best bank in the world. Obviously breaking into banking is tough, even at a shit place like BGL, but don't look for external recognition from people here. Not congratulating you on working at a crap LMM bank doesn't make everyone privileged.
