Fuck, 5'11. Alright, word, you gave me a little something to work with. Some of my frat brahs have parents that work for McKinsey and I got about 4 more follow up questions for you if you want a bid...

1) Chill to pull ratio? How much do you get laid versus how much time do you spend talking shit with the boys? McKinsey has enough of these fairy pretty boys. We need men that are gonna kick some ass for us when those Bain & Co. pussies run up on us at Olive Garden.

2) How much cash do your parents make? Nobody likes that "blah blah blah, I worked for my own money" kid. Do you have a house in the Hamptons I can roll up to during Labor Day weekend or not?

3) How far can you throw a football? If there is one thing that we love at McKinsey, it's sports. We.Love.Sports. If you don't like sports, you're probably short. And if you're short, NO BID.

Kick me some facts and I'll let you know if it's a good fit or not.

As amusing as this exchange has been (very), I'll try to give you a real answer.

I don't think you have a chance. Now that the band-aid has been ripped off, I'll say why, and it's mostly for two reasons:

  1. Disconnected resume. Biology --> independent consulting --> master's in biology at 27? McKinsey (and others) have so many applicants, enough of which have perfect resumes, that as soon as they have to stop and say "wait, this doesn't make sense," then they can ding you. Does it mean you are immediately less capable of performing in the position? Of course not! But why would McKinsey take the time/effort/cost to find out?

  2. Lack of elitism. Low GPA from a low-tier state school (twice) doesn't mean you won't be successful, but it means McKinsey won't be interested. McKinsey's brand is that they represent a collection of elite talent, to be purchased by those in elite positions. Elite means a lot of things to different people, and so McKinsey makes sure to cover their bases-- you can find 4.0s from Harvard alongside Olympians and child-prodigy musicians. Again, does it mean they're automatically better than you at the actual job? Not necessarily. But why would McKinsey risk it?

I hope you don't take away from this that you're not capable of having a rewarding, productive career. You say you've been successful on your own as an independent contractor, so obviously you've been creating something of value for your clients. That's a lot more than a lot of people can say at 27.

Remember, there's no rule that says the path to riches and joy can only go through McKinsey. Best of luck to you.

^that's the best hope you have.

but I don't understand why people study non mandatory post grad degrees from lesser known schools, score mediocre gpas yet then expect high returns.

It's a fucking war out there; the competition is cut throat.

This whole post smells off, so either OP is trolling us or hiding something very weird.

  1. Biology degrees to security consulting seems very out of place.
  2. You have an employer that you can't discuss, doesn't exist, etc. Unless you were involved in something straight up illegal you'd be backstopped. I know people who've worked CIA, military intel, etc and they have backstopped credentials. If you actually were working for US govt/NATO like you claim some sort of backstop would exist. I'm calling bullshit on that.
  3. You're suggesting lying on your resume. Uh, ok. That won't make it through a background check, but whatever. (Yes, McK and virtually every other employer on WSO checks GPA)
  4. You realize there is more to being a successful consultant than "BS-ing," right?

I wonder if OP is trying to fish for information on how McK conducts background checks. If so, just come out and say so.
