Case Study Help - Senior undergraduate
Hi,
I'm a senior undergraduate and trying to prepare for case interviews. I've done plenty of research and read some books. I'm hoping that someone will know where I can get my hands on some practice cases.
Also, I had a case interview with Huron Consulting, which I passed without any issues. I thought the case was relatively easy, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how Huron's case interview compares to others such as McKinsey, BCG, Deloitte...etc. I ask because I've recently met some people at some of these firms, so I'm hoping to go through their recruiting processes.
One thing to note is that I attend a non-target school. The school doesn't have a consulting club or much help for students trying to get into the industry.
Thanks for your help,
Ricky
What you need is PRACTICE case interviews. I think I did around 50 Skype case interviews with different partners and with the cases from Kellogg, Wharton and HBS casebooks. And then the key is to develop your own frameworks. I really liked the ones in Whathon 2010 casebook, so I worked from them and customized them. So this is the most important thing in case interview prep, do lots of cases. consultingcase101.com has a very good feature for finding Skype partners. So find 5-7 different ones (as good as possible) and just learn from them!
I agree with Santini. Practicing cases is the only real way to get better, and you should find people to practice with (preferably people that have gone through the process before).
On another note, OP how are you just starting with FT recruitment? To my knowledge, most shops are finished with their recruiting efforts.
Thanks for the input. I did some googling and found some casebooks with practice cases in them.
Sour Patch: I know that many companies are finished, but I'm hoping that I can network my way into some off cycle recruiting efforts. I know I should have started much earlier. I just don't know many people in consulting and only recently have met a few people that are helping me get my foot in the door. I don't expect it to be an easy road. Also, I plan to work for a couple years and then pursue my MBA (will try for a top-tier school), and will pursue consulting at that point if I don't make it right now.
