ECM in NY

Hey folks, I've read here that some ECM departments are purely "middle office" price stabalization folks while others are much more involved in the dealmaking/bookbuilding process.

If you work in NYC and work in or are familiar with your firm's ECM dept., where does it fall? IBD or not?

... yet ECM can work more manageable hours and get paid the same base and bonus, according to what I've seen here. Career ECM doesn't exactly sound like a prison sentence to me.

As someone who isn't obsessed with getting into PE or modeling until 3am, and is interested in the buyside and equity exit opportunities, I'll take my equal pay to IBD, better hours, plenty of exit opps., and interesting work any day...

End of Story, unless you are in ECM or know people who are and where they've gone, please don't comment.
