Financial news reporting to buyside credit?
I have an interview for a reporter role at a data firm owned by a credit ratings agency.
The company has a division that reports on news for the firm's institutional clients, and I would be covering special sits, structured credit, DCM, (pretty much anything related to levfin & fixed income), and providing research and insights to credit investors.
I would be expected to build a large network of people in credit.
The role is analytical in some way, but I’m not entirely sure how, but I would be expected to understand financial data and financial statements, filings etc, stuff I know although the posting was vague in how that is connected. The firm has a separate credit research division that is separate from the reporting role.
For those familiar with this type of thing, is there a path to buy-side credit from a role like this?
Move to the credit research division, then you can lateral to investments. Otherwise, better to start at a ratings agency then lateral.
