Calling Around Xmas

I saw a thread about networking during Xmas, but was wondering about calling smaller banks for currently open analyst positions - can I call today/tom.? After Xmas but before New years? Right after New Years? Or do I seriously have to wait until 2nd week of Jan. to call :-(?

I would do one of two things: I would either make a call to try to figure out who you should reach out to in January, or I would wait until the beginning of January to make calls. Now is the not the time to reach out to small banks or big banks for 1 of 2 reasons. Either: 1) no one important is in the office right now, or, worse, 2) people are in the office and are probably not very happy about it - probably slammed against a wall and are not interested in dealing with you at the moment. In either case, wait until after the holidays to really try to get ahold of the important people and hope the spirit is still with them.

Regarding when after New Years, the official day back will probably be Monday the 4th. Don't start blowing up their phones on Monday - let them come back, get their bearings and get it together. Give them a call Tuesday or Wednesday instead - it's still early in the week, but not the second they get back.

As an aside, I am assuming you are inquiring about any potential open positions and not calling in response to an ad put online for an open position like last week or a few days ago or something. If you are calling to inquire about an ad put up for an analyst spot yesterday, then yes, you should call up today or tomorrow.

Good luck.

How do names help me in Dec. if I am going to call in Jan? Wouldn't it be the same if I call in Jan.? Or are you saying I should ask to be transferred to a banker, leave a voicemail if no answer, then follow up with him/her in Jan.?
