VC transition into... IB?

I’m a GP at a VC fund ($100 MM+), but have been thinking about making a switch into investment banking after having been in VC these past few years. Prior, I worked as a Fractional CFO for various startups up until Series A. And before that, I did some consulting work (management consulting at Big 4 and PE/transaction advisory). And before that I was in finance at two F 100 companies (FP&A, corporate strategy roles).

I know the two fields overlap in some areas, but I’m curious about whether this career transition makes sense.

- How transferable are the skills from VC to IB?

- I recently finished my MBA (part-time/exec) from a top 3 school as well

- Does a network built in VC translate well into IB?

- Are there any other industries I should look at?

I’m trying to assess whether this is a viable move at this stage of my career or if there is some other field I should also be considering. PE is definitely an option, but I've been leaning more towards IB.

Happy to share details about why I'm wanting to leave VC, just message me and we can connect.

I think you would know this better than anyone on this forum. If you had to pull in deals right now, could you? I’m assuming, based on your background, that you would be starting at the Director or MD level.

At this juncture it comes down to if you can generate deal flow and revenue. If you can convince a group head you can, you’ll find a job in banking. If you actually can, you’ll keep a job in banking.

I’m assuming you understand the change in lifestyle and downsides, so won’t press on why on earth you would do this.
