I am familiar with Nomura outside the US and it's pretty big/solid closer to home than it is in the US (at the top of some deal tables etc). I know they've been trying to expand in the US for some time, and I think now (they are killing it in Japan profit-wise etc because of Abenomics) is a great time to make that push.
Yeah pretty interesting how they're trying to do all this organically as opposed to acquisitions like many banks have done/tried.
Any other thoughts, esp. from an analyst's perspective? Top coverage groups? I've heard Natural Resources is good. How about their M&A and LevFin/Acq. Fin?
This is interesting. It was only a few years ago that Nomura was talking about pulling out of IBD in the US. This news seems to indicate they are doing pretty alright.

DB did some pretty splashy acquisitions though, notably Bankers Trust/Alex Brown.

Heard Lev Fin is doing well in the US...there's a relatively recent thread floating around WSO about groups etc at Nomura in the US.
As Duff said I feel like it was only like 2 years ago they were drastically pulling back. Funny how things changed.
I know they are making a major push to build out alot of the coverage groups including Health Care
So they're obviously spending the dough and not kidding around... but do you think it'll lead to success?
Any thoughts from those who work at Nomura Securities in the US now, will work there, or know others who work/have worked there?
