Thoughts on Corporate & Investment Banking at SMBC?
I'm currently in an associate level role in the leveraged finance credit risk group of a BB. I got an offer to join as an associate in a coverage group at SMBC. Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences with a position like this i.e. a front office corp/IB banking role at a lower tier bank? While I am happy with the type of work the role offers, I am nervous that the bank does not carry a leading reputation and that it could make a lateral move or exit opportunities (more credit fund than PE) more difficult to come by. The comp is decent (bonus is likely below market) and it gives me an opportunity to move into a front office role. Thanks for the help
bump also interested about the culture and pay

theyve invested a ton in the originate to distribute model. hired a bunch of bankers/originators, cap mkts, sales people, traders... now they just gotta win some deals. heard the culture is ok/good (by japanese bank standards). also hear they pay better than the tier 2/3 european banks.
No idea about the senior level but an incoming intern and I am making about the same if not more than BBs in NYC . Really surprised me when I got the offer
