From Ivygate:
"Aleksey Vayner, the Yale graduate who became famous for a video résumé titled “Impossible is Nothing,” has died, according to several sources. An email sent by a friend of Vayner’s to a small group of people at Yale confirmed his death, and a woman claiming to be his niece recently posted a notice about him on Twitter.
Today a spokeswoman for the New York City Medical Examiner confirmed to IvyGate that a 29-year-old man matching Vayner’s description, under the name of Alex Stone, died on the morning of January 19 in Queens, New York. The spokeswoman indicated that the cause of death has yet to be determined."
Too much lifting.
Does he even lift?
Dude, that's like an average of 99 pounds. Shit's weak.

Man... I feel really bad for the guy. He made a fool of himself but it's not like we haven't done something just as stupid before....
He'll come back.
"That's impossible!" you say?
Well... impossible is nothing...

Feel really, really feel bad for the guy. Far too many suicides lately. Perhaps this could have been averted had he coupled his name change with plastic surgery.
Cause of death has yet to be determined. If it turns out to be a suicide, then I apologize for laughing at his video resume as it most likely played no small part in his ultimate demise. Say what you want about the guy, but ending your existence isn't the easiest decision to make. The extent of emotional turmoil he must have experienced in his final hours is something I hope to never face nor would I wish it upon my worst enemy.
According to his niece, he purposely overdosed:
https://twitter.com/anavayner/status/293103241917505536
Of course, that's assuming that is actually his niece and it's all not some elaborate attention grab.
Pour one out...
shows how psychologically damaging some internet character defamation can be
To be fair, he did bring that on himself. No less tragic, but we can't really blame the Internet for Aleksey's troubles. See also: Ghyslain Razaa
Tempted to say this is another elaborate hoax, given his past behavior
You know you're application was bad, when "How I met your mother" has an entire episode making fun of it...
I hope he got royalties.
On the subject of royalties and internet videos - The Techno Viking is suing the guy who posted his famous dance to Youtube. Apparently the poster is raking in tons from Google. The Techno Viking might be the #1 person on the internet you do not want to piss off.
I feel bad for the guy on multiple levels, but his own actions led to this. At least he can rest in peace, no need to prove anything anymore
The world has lost an amazing salsa dancer this day.
Lol. A yale alum friend knows the girl he was dancing with, apparently she was motified by the video, poor thing.
Hold the phone.
This might not be real after all. The Ivygate piece has been taken down, and the Twitter account associated with his "niece" has been deleted. Gawker is on the case, but so far they're getting nowhere:

IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!!!!
Only chuck norris is capable of killing vayner
Latest Vayner update from Gawker:
In three days time, Vayner will emerge from his tomb.
More powerful than ever.
Looking for revenge.
He wants to scam you out of...your soul!
After seeing what happened to this guy, I thank God everyday that the footage I sent to the BBs of me weightlifting hasn't went viral as well.
Holy shit. I finally found the old ROFLCON footage that has been deleted forever where he describes how the whole thing wrecked his life:
That's not his niece, that's actually Ronaiah Tuiasosopo
Are we sure that this was not just an elaborate ruse that would allow him to add coming back from the dead to his list of accolades?
I always thought it was weird he took an extended leave of absence and never returned to yale for his final semester to get the degree. I'm guessing that after the viral video yale looked into his application and found out he lied about some stuff.
Poor guy... Bullying has gone global...
This is sad for a few reasons:
It shows just how destructive the internet can be: and ultimately, it's no one's fault but the one who got caught being stupid at that point in life. Getting caught is the crime here, because let's face it: we're all ....fucking.... stupid at some point.
Death of a young person. Despite revelling in gallows humor, I don't think this is funny. It's nothing to joke about.
Now that he's gone, he can't do stuff that makes us laugh. Tragic. I think this violates point #2, but whatever man, this was some goofy funny shit.
It is really sad that he killed himself (or so it seems based on recent news reports) but its not like he was a wholly innocent citizen being bullied on the web (like that light-saber kid, or the more recent silly ugrad cover letter). Everyone here is busting their ass and making sacrifices so that they have a full resume and a chance at the top-tier banking position, while he was just making up shit so he could jump in front of us. Not cool. The fact that the internet outs these creeps so that we have a fair playing field isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The guy came from very humble beginnings, immigrating to the US with his single mom and only a few dollars to their name, yet achieved a lot single handedly over a short period of time. Those assholes at UBS deserve to be bludgeoned to death, but karma is a bitch that never existed.
Then on the other hand, you've got fucktards like this guy: //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/vayner-watch-everyone-linkedin-request-t…
I get the impression that this was an accidental death. Either way, my condolences to his family. It's all fun and games until someone dies.
Sure it does, they have to work at UBS. Wakka wakka wakkaNew York Daily News confirms that it was actually him and he is, in fact, dead:
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/aleksey-vayner-video-resume-notorie…
Pretty sad.
Suicide is a terrible thing and I send my condolences to his family.
When things like this happen, I like to take a second to see if there is anything we can learn from it. As several have mentioned, it would probably be nice if society didn't enjoy laughing at people so much. The truth is that it's something we all do and it's not going to stop anytime soon. I'm sure Aleksey has done it plenty of times before, just like the rest of us.
So, what's the difference between Aleksey and others who have been humiliated, but are still alive? My sense is that, while you can't control whether people will laugh at you, you can control your reaction to it. Whether you choose to laugh with them and move on or realize we all make stupid mistakes and move on or whatever. The key is that you move on.
Disclaimer: I realize that his suicide is almost surely not solely the result of his video going viral. I know nothing else of his life, so I'm just basing this off I what I know and a lot of conjecture. I'm sure he had other demons haunting him.
^ Yeah, from the articles I've read, it sounds like an accident. If he was going to commit suicide, it would've happened quite some time ago. Some articles mentioned he had a wife and started his own thing.
Recent interview of him by Vice: http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/motherboard-tv-impossible-is-something…
It's sad, because as UFOinsider said, everyone fucks up or is stupid in some point in their lives - but very few of us are caught with our pants down in front of billions of people and are constantly reminded of it wherever we go. Of course, he did bring quite a bit of this on himself (the pompous self interview, the plagiarism of some dialogue for a claim on writing a book on the holocaust and some details from another hedge fund for his own, claiming to have a charity with an association to a rating system when it didn't, fantastical lies about the Dalai Lama...). But even then it doesn't warrant ridicule that ruins your life.
On a comparative basis, I think one can say that Jeffrey Chiang guy who blatantly lied to one bank about having an offer to the other was more deserving of blacklisting, at least from an ethical standpoint, compared to Vayner whose mistake is mostly grand showmanship, (unintended?) douchebaggery and lack of tact. There was also Kaavya Viswanathan, who got caught plagiarizing another book. Interestingly enough, the big ethical misstep didn't deter her entry into a good law school and top law firm.
I'm on the fence about this one. While it's beyond unfortunate he's dead...hopefully it wasn't suicide, if that even matters...part of me thinks he brought this on himself. As other's have stated, it's a severe case of bad luck mixed with bad choices. We've all screwed up but unintentional mistakes I've made don't register on the radar of dumb things this guy did.
Personally, I don't hold the video resume idea against him as much as I do his apparent history of self promotion, lies and conjured bravado...which he unfortunately put on tape. While he was a pioneer, of sorts, in the uncovering of Internet cruelty, he must have known there would be potential consequences for his devious behavior. As we now know, the Internet can be a very cruel place. Virtual anonymity only encourages the boorish and callous behavior that is so widely known and prevalent now. Had he known the potential results of his actions, maybe he would have chosen differently.
He certainly brought some of this upon himself, there is no question about that, but he paid the ultimate price for his mistakes...a price that was far to steep. Sadly the guy did seem smart, motivated and talented, which could easily have made him a legitimate success.
Regards
Sad day for America.
How many more innocents must die before we ban the internet? Call your congressman and demand action NOW.

Aaaaand... I'm an asshole.
could this have been faked / starting a new life in another part of the country (or even another country) / name change ...it's what i would do
if not, then rest in peace and may God be with him and his family. everyone makes mistakes. he couldve started over instead.
if it had been me, i would've just paid off a couple folks in some hospital, morgue, and pathologist with some fresh $$USD and start a completely new life in another country with a new appearance and name...
open up your minds, people. who WOULDNT fake their death (or attempt to) in his shoes? it's just as possible as suicide...
good point. should never rule this out as a possibility.
Here is someone with a Resume
you wish you hadhttp://dealbreaker.com/2007/05/impossible-is-nothing-remix/His website
How do you match up to him ? [I know I can't.]
Now that's a guy I look up to in utter admiration.
This guy almost out-Vayners Vayner
Dude, I think this guy's for real... at least there's a lot of info on him around. Probably embellishing some, but if you look him up there's hella videos/articles about him
This news is sad, and I hope that Aleksey rests in peace. I think we've all had those bonafide brain-farts, but without the ridiculous repercussions.
A few years ago, I was on a Queens-bound F train, and Aleksey got on around the 42 or 47-50 street stop and sat across from me. After my brain registered who he was, I couldn't help but notice that he was built very, very solidly. I'm a larger-than-average guy myself (6'1) with a > 275 lb bench press at the time, and he was definitely taller and had a far better physique. The athletic feats on his video (especially the bench press) may not have been faked or greatly embellished; if only he (or someone else) had the sense to not make such an odd video.
This Resume is missing a few important points:
Hedge fund Manager/Portfolio Manager (which Mr. Vayner was!)
Spymaster/Government agent (again, Mr. Vayner in all fairness stated he was a former CIA agent)
Consultant for the IMF/The World Bank.
On Linkedin I have seen one trend of people that self describe themselves as Philanthropers which is a combination of Philanthropist and Entrepreneur, I guess.
If a guy walks into my office with an Ivy League Degree and tell me he is a "Philanthroper" or "Social Entrepreneur" or something, it already triggers my vomiting reflex...
I know a guy who claims to be a social entrepreneur. TOTAL DBAG!!!!
