AM Material Advice

Hello, fellow AM monkeys!

I am a current prospect in AM and an incoming freshman in college and would like to see what sites, courses, resources, material (free or paid) can help me land an internship at an asset management firm. I would like to focus on solely asset management, realistically in the Equities section. Thanks in advance!

@dickthesellsider" also has a great interview guide and reading list. Go check them out! :)

Additionally here are a few things you're going to want to do:

  1. Learn how to craft really good stock pitches. Check out Value Investor's Club, which has helped me out a lot.
  2. Figure out the scope of companies you want to recruit for. I personally work in long only equities, so the companies from my area you'd be interested in include Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, Wellington, and Capital Group for example.
  3. Start networking with people at your college who do asset management, and ask what area they work in. Asset Management is a HUGE space, with different areas doing vastly different things. Maybe consider joining an investment or asset management club on campus when you get there.
  4. Beware the investment banking (IB) trap. Everyone at your school will probably want to do IB immediately out of college. There's nothing wrong with that, and many may tell you that time working in that space is necessary before taking an asset management job, i.e. literally required before you can realistically get a job in AM. For some companies or areas, this may be true, but for many companies you don't need to.
  5. Realize that recruiting for this space will likely be challenging compared to other spaces. This really is OK! You just need to be on top of your stuff and really know what you want to do after college. If you can do this you'll be set up well for the remainder of your career in the space.
