Graduate Investment Consulting Job -- What qualification to take?
Hi All,
I'm an Economics graduate from and good UK university. I will be starting a job as an investment analyst at an Investment Consulting firm specialising in pensions. I have the option of studying towards a qualification. I believe I have the option of going down the IFoA (FFA, FIA etc) route and becoming an actuary or going down the CFA route. I'm not too sure which one I should choose. I was just wondering if anybody had any advice regarding how the two qualifications compare in terms of prestige and difficultly. Which one opens up more doors? What would you do if you were in my position?
I'm leaning towards the CFA but I'm put off by it's alleged difficultly.
Thanks a lot!
Do CFA. It’s hard, but difficulty is on par with university classes. Probably less difficult than the hard sciences and math.
Thanks for this. To be honest, out of the two I think I would definitely find the CFA more interesting. I'm just pretty worried about failing the CFA as the pass rate for level 1 is around 40%
As one who has studied actuarial exams the CFA is a cakewalk in comparison. Basic finance, accounting and ethics versus ridiculous graduate level math type exams.
