Portfolio Valuation Role inside AM

Hey guys, I recently got an intern offer from valuation team from PIMCO, but not really sure if this is a good opportunity. I guess this is more like a back-office role which covers the valuation of all the portfolios within alternative funds. Personally, I am very interested in a career path in asset management, but would prefer portfolio management to valuation. Will this experience really helps on resume? Or, does this intern helps to break into other teams within the PIMCO? Could anyone please help? Thanks much.
